Volunteer in The Grove for the 2020 Summer Festival!

Click to View Volunteer Opportunities on SignUp.com

The Grove is quite accessible and user-friendly, but we still need ushers per performance to make the shows run smoothly. We also have sign-ups for parking attendants to help direct patrons to our assigned parking lots. All signups must go through the online signup system. We cannot take personal requests over the phone or email.

While the benefit of ushering and parking assistance is to see one of our productions for free, volunteers do provide audience assistance through the beginning of the performance, at intermission, and cleanup at the close of the show. The minimum age for ushering is 12 years old and 18 years old for parking, and all volunteers must be able to stand for at least one hour outdoors.

PARKING: SCS’s outdoor theater, The Grove, is located at 501 Upper Park Road in Upper DeLaveaga Park. Parking is $5 cash per car or you can carpool: cars of 4 or more people receive free parking. ** There is no direct bus route to the new theater. You will need arrange transportation or carpool with others if you do not drive. **

Volunteers are required to arrive promptly 2 hours before the show. Please plan accordingly so that you leave time for traffic and parking. Latecomers may be asked to either buy tickets to see the performance or book ushering for another date. When everyone shows up on time, the training —no matter how often you have helped in the past, can go quickly. Please meet for your orientation in the outdoor lobby of The Grove.

If there are any problems with your schedule, or if you have an emergency come up and are not able to meet your commitment, please change your time slot on signup.com. If it is the day of the scheduled performance, contact House Management by email foh@santacruzshakespeare.org OR call the box office at 831-460-6399 and leave a message.

DRESS CODE: Please wear white on the top and black on the bottom. If you have not attended a performance in The Grove, do understand that it is an outdoor theater. For matinees, bring a hat and/or sunscreen; for evening performances, layers are most appropriate for shifts in the weather. Mosquitos and yellow-jackets can be bothersome in the early evening as well. Please no flip-flops, torn clothes, blue jeans, etc.

AT THE SHOW: Please arrive at The Grove promptly at your call time. 2 hours before show time, even if you have previously volunteered. We have a lot to do before the show begins! Please check in with the House Manager as soon as you arrive. Ushers who did not initial the liability waiver form online will need to sign upon arrival.
