SC SENTINEL: Santa Cruz Shakespeare offers ‘Weekend with Shakespeare’

Santa Cruz Shakespeare will be augmenting their 2017 summer season this weekend with a series of lectures on this year’s plays known as “Weekend With Shakespeare.”

On Friday, Aug. 18, the topic will be Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure,” and will feature discussions of the play’s themes by UC Santa Cruz’s Sean Keilen, UC Irvine’s Julia Lupton, dramaturg’s Ashley Herum and Michael Warren and the actors in this year’s production.

On Saturday, Aug. 19, the focus will be on Shakespeare’s “Two Gentlemen of Verona” with UCSC’s Keilen discussing Shakespeare’s views on adolescence, along with dramaturg Ariane Helou and director Art Manke, as well as a clowning workshop by Patty Gallagher. The program on both days will take place at the UCSC Arboretum from noon to 4 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 20, will be Educator’s Day with a program designed for educators on Shakespeare at Humanties Room 210 at UCSC, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
