SC SENTINEL: Praiseworthy: Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s new location is grand

Published in the Santa Cruz Sentinel, August 13, 2017. Letters to the Editor.

Last night we attended Santa Cruz Shakespeare.

Not in a redwood grove but a eucalyptus — Audrey Stanley Grove. Our dear friends from Davis were attending the Dickens Institute at UCSC and as has been our tradition for a few years, they treated us to Shakespeare. They go to Ashland every year.

Also, what a surprise as we entered the grove, new wide seated wood benches have been installed and large elevated lights and a beautiful set for this magnificent production of “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.” It was such a professionally produced performance and only the second night of previews.

I don’t know how it could have been better. It must have been the new artistic director, Mike Ryan, and his steadfast contributions from the ground up from people who know what an important component it is to our community.

The Santa Cruz Shakespeare board has obviously thrown their hearts and souls into the regeneration of this new home.

And after an enjoyable evening, we were only a few steps from the parking.
