b'The creative teamMaria Frangos(Dramaturg, Pride and Prejudice) is excited to return to SCS this year, after working as dramaturg on The 39 Steps and Venus in Fur. She has worked in literary management/dramaturgy at La Jolla Playhouse on productions such as Tony Kushners adaptation of The Good Person of Setzuan directed by Lisa Peterson and Neal Bells adaptation of Thres Raquin. She has a Ph.D. from UC Santa Cruz, where her work focused on comparative medieval and Renaissance literatures, drama, and Shakespeare, and is currently working on an M.A. in Theatre Arts at San Francisco State University. She has taught Script Analysis at Berkeley Rep School of Theatre, currently teaches Introduction to Drama and writing at DeAnza College, and has taught literature at UC Santa Cruz. Maria has also performed with Ubuntu Theater Project in Oakland.Dipu Gupta(Scenic Designer) has designed scenery for the Santa Fe Opera, Opera Africa Johannesburg, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Gotham Opera NYC, Wolf Trap Opera, the Manhattan School of Music, Opera Pacific, Geva Theater Center, Syracuse Stage, Seattle ACT, Center Rep, San Jose Rep, the Berkshire Opera Company, Madison Opera, the NJ Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, The New Swan Shakespeare Festival, and Shakespeare Orange County. He is a licensed California architect with completed building projects in California, New York, New Hampshire, Washington, and New Mexico. He holds a M.F.A. in Set Design from the University of California, Los Angeles, a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He has been a faculty member at the University of California, Merced, and the University of California, Irvine. Ariane Helou(Dramaturgy, The Winters Tale) is thrilled to return to SCS for an eighth season. Previous dramaturgy at SCS includes Romeo & Juliet, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Hamlet, and The Liar. Other regional credits: Gunshot Medley: Part 1 (Rogue Machine Theatre), Master Class (Jewel Theatre), The Mandrake (Shakespeare Santa Cruz). A scholar, musician, translator, and former Jeopardy! contestant, Ariane holds a Ph.D. in Literature from UC Santa Cruz, where she was also a faculty member. She currently teaches at UCLA, and has published scholarship on Shakespeare studies and early modern drama. Ariane is a company member (Dramaturg/Producer) of the Los Angeles-based theater company Collaborative Artists Bloc. Ashley Herum (Dramaturgy, The Comedy of Errors) has been the dramaturg for SCSs Loves Labours Lost and Measure for Measure as well as the dramaturg intern for SCSs A Midsummer Nights Dream. She has also been the dramaturg for UCSCs Shakespeare to Gos productions of The Tempest, Romeo & Juliet and The Two Gentlemen of Verona. She holds an M.F.A. in Fiction and an M.A. in Classics. Currently, she is a Ph.D. Candidate in Literature at UCSC, where she studies Shakespeare. She is truly thrilled to be returning to SCS!B. Modern(Costume Designer, Pride and Prejudice, The Comedy of Errors) designed costumes and served as Associate Artist for over 50 productions and 28 seasons at Shakespeare Santa Cruz. She continues this rewarding creative relationship with Santa Cruz Shakespeare for the sixth season. Recent productions with SCS include Romeo and Juliet, Venus in Fur, The 39 Steps, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Hamlet, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, and The Merry Wives of Windsor.
