b'2019 SCS Student Matinee ProgramThe Comedy of Errors, August 2829, and September 35 Program Goal: To provide a live, professional theatre experience for at minimum 1000 students each fall, culminating with the goal to serve all of Santa Cruz County with a Shakespeare performance before students graduate.Delivering professional theatre to all of Santa Cruz County and the surrounding communities is a vital part of our mission: live theatre is one of the best ways to create a sense of community andconnection.SCSsprogramimpactsbothstudentsandteachers, creatingarobust cycle of teaching, digestion of knowledge, and shared theatrical experience. Educational programming is an investment in the future of the performing arts, and SCSs commitment will build the next generation of patrons of the arts who are engaged in the cultural life of their community. The Comedy of Errors was selected for the second year of our student matinee series to provide an insight into one of Shakespeares earliest and most accessible comedies. All participating schools will be provided with a study guide and lesson plan overview to prepare them and to get them excited about coming to the theatre. This past March, educators were invited to our spring prep program, Educators Day, a teacher training day with hands-on demonstrations tailored to working with and teaching Shakespeares verse and plays. Our hope is to have the teachers who attend Educators Day bring their students to the production in the fall!Tickets for the Student Matinee Program are provided at no cost to Title I schools (schools with significant populations of low-income or underserved students) and at a heavily subsidized rate of $10/ticket for other schools. Schools can also apply to receive scholarships to offset ticket and/or transportation costs.
