Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s Education Programming

COVID-19 UPDATE:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SCS has decided to postpone our 2020 Season and Student Matinee Week until 2021, when we can safely gather again in The Grove theater.

In the meantime, we will be producing educational materials about Shakespeare and his plays over the next few months! Along with lesson plans and videos about Shakespeare, we will be conducting a series of interviews and masterclasses with dramaturgs, theater admin, directors, designers, and actors to show students and the general public how a theater company runs. A sort of “Behind The Scenes” with SCS.

If you would like to read our official postponement announcement from Artistic Director Mike Ryan, you can view it HERE.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns, and we hope to see you next year for our production of Twelfth Night!

School Testimonials:

The students loved seeing such a high level professional performance so up close and personal. They particularly enjoyed the talk back with the actors, and asked impressively thoughtful questions.
~ SLVUSD Charter-Quail Hollow Integrated Arts

“Students loved the play! They already understood the plot, characters, and time period of Shakespeare. They easily followed the play, and became excited by the amazing costumes and acting.”
~ Watsonville Charter School of the Arts

“They loved how the actors interacted with the audience.”
~ North Monterey County High School

“The students LOVED watching Shakespeare’s language come to life. For the freshman – it is a preview of the play they will read in English class. For the Advanced Drama students – it was a chance to see professionals act (and get some pointers!).”
~ Los Gatos High School
