Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s Student Matinee Week

Bring your students to a rousing performance of a Shakespeare play, and experience the magic that happens in live theatre! SCS is proud to present Shakespeare’s TWELFTH NIGHT for the 2020 Student Matinee Production.

Our third annual Student Matinee Week will be on August 26 & 28, and September 1-3 2020. During the final week of our season, a professional production of one of Shakespeare’s plays will remain open for five student-only matinee performances. These 10am matinees are for students and their chaperones only, and include a post-show discussion with the actors after each performance. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every single high school student in the Santa Cruz County has seen a live, professional production of one of Shakespeare’s plays by the time they graduate!

Here is some feedback from schools who attended our past Student Matinee Productions:

The students loved seeing such a high level professional performance so up close and personal. They particularly enjoyed the talk back with the actors, and asked impressively thoughtful questions.
~ SLVUSD Charter-Quail Hollow Integrated Arts

“Students loved the play! They already understood the plot, characters, and time period of Shakespeare. They easily followed the play, and became excited by the amazing costumes and acting.”
~ Watsonville Charter School of the Arts

“They loved how the actors interacted with the audience.”
~ North Monterey County High School

“The students LOVED watching Shakespeare’s language come to life. For the freshman – it is a preview of the play they will read in English class. For the Advanced Drama students – it was a chance to see professionals act (and get some pointers!).”
~ Los Gatos High School
